Taking pets

Taking pets

Dogs, cats and ferrets

When travelling from the UK to Germany your pet must meet the following requirements:

  • The animal must have a microchip.
  • It must have an EU pet passport which must contain the microchip ID as well as all necessary health records.
  • The pet must have a valid rabies vaccination, which must be recorded in the EU pet passport.

NB: If your animal has been vaccinated against rabies for the first time, this vaccination must have taken place at least 21 days before travelling.

Repeat vaccinations

Repeat vaccinations depend on the individual vaccine manufacturer's recommendation. The length of the vaccination must be noted in the pet passport.

Puppies and kittens below the age of fifteen weeks cannot be taken into Germany

To enter Germany, puppies and kittens require the completed rabies vaccination and a fitted microchip and valid EU Pet Passport. As animals below 12 weeks cannot be vaccinated and a waiting period of 21 days after vaccination is required, puppies and kittens can only enter Germany once they are 15 weeks old and fullfil all other requirements.
